Attorney – Local Government Law

About the role

Join a growing team dedicated to shaping local government law in North Carolina. The attorney will work directly with municipalities, providing day‑to‑day legal counsel and contributing to the expansion of the Durham office.

Key responsibilities

• Advise local governments on governance, contracts, land use, and public‑meeting matters.
• Draft, review, and revise ordinances, resolutions, and legal opinions.
• Represent municipalities in administrative hearings and court proceedings.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting local entities.
• Collaborate with attorneys and staff across the firm to deliver integrated services.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active member of the North Carolina State Bar.
• Five or more years of experience practicing local government law in North Carolina.
• Strong knowledge of municipal operations, FOIA, zoning, procurement, governance, and public‑meeting statutes.
• Existing relationships with or experience serving municipalities in the Raleigh‑Durham‑Chapel Hill region is a plus.
