Associate Scientist – Cell and Systems Biology

About the role

The Department of Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Miami seeks a full‑time Associate Scientist to advance next‑generation human cell models for disease research and therapeutic discovery.

Key responsibilities

• Design, execute, and analyze experiments including cell culture, genome editing, microscopy, and drug discovery assays.
• Supervise research staff, manage lab inventory, and act as chemical hygiene officer.
• Contribute to grant proposals, scientific publications, and patent preparations.
• Prepare risk assessments, SOPs, and assist with IACUC submissions.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of post‑doctoral or equivalent research experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Cell culture and differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells.
• Microscopy techniques (immunofluorescence, confocal, live‑cell imaging).
• Genome editing (guide RNA design, transfection, screening).
• Biochemical assays (qPCR, electrophoresis, immunoblotting, cloning).
• Data analysis and documentation using ImageJ, GraphPad, Illustrator, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, HTML.
