Associate Professor – Clinical Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (Head & Neck)

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an Associate Professor to lead clinical pathology and laboratory medicine services focused on head and neck anatomic pathology. The role combines patient care, teaching, research, and quality‑assurance activities across UMH, JMH, and the Sylvester Cancer Comprehensive Center.

Key responsibilities

• Provide patient care services at UMH, JMH, and SCCC, including gross description, tissue sampling, microscopic examination, and timely reporting of surgical specimens.
• Perform frozen section diagnoses and autopsies as required, ensuring accurate and prompt results.
• Participate in 24‑hour call coverage for the assigned division.
• Teach pathology residents, fellows, and medical students through lectures, case conferences, and hands‑on training.
• Engage in collaborative basic, clinical, or applied research and seek external grant funding.
• Contribute to departmental quality‑assurance activities, hospital committees, and maintain JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation standards.

Required profile

• MD or DO, board certified or board eligible in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or both; additional board certifications are desirable.
• Florida medical license.
• Strong knowledge of surgical pathology, intra‑operative evaluations, hematopathology, and laboratory medicine.
• Ability to work independently, make definitive diagnoses, and communicate effectively within a diverse professional workforce.
• Familiarity with JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA regulations and hazardous material management policies.
