About the role

Horizon Media, a marketing and advertising firm founded in 1989 with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto, is hiring an Associate, Data Science for its Marketing Science team. The associate uses advanced statistics and data science techniques to build qualified audiences for client campaigns, applying modeling and analytics to guide audience strategy. The work involves the blu. platform, which is built on a TransUnion identity framework and integrates agency partners' deterministic data. The role also cultivates working relationships with agency groups.

Key responsibilities

• Solutions design and innovation (30%): build end-to-end data science solutions for non-data-science audiences, transform and mine data, join blu audiences with media exposure and conversion events, analyze audience conversion to KPIs, and increasingly use AI to speed analysis
• Technical and analytical excellence (60%): audience development using machine learning and data mining on large structured and unstructured datasets, data validation, predictive modeling, NLP for sentiment analysis, time series, Bayesian analysis, causal inference, cluster and factor analysis, and advanced data visualization
• Product innovation and management (10%): become a power user of the analysis, work with or manage product-development teams, take part in release testing (Alpha, Beta, QA, UAT), and propose features, models and proof of concepts

Required profile

• BS/BA in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or a related field
• 0-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in media, marketing or digital advertising
• Working knowledge of big and basic data mining routines
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-project environment with minimal supervision
• Team player with strong verbal communication and organizational skills

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of an analytic and programming language such as Python or R
• Knowledge of predictive and machine learning methods (a plus)
• Familiarity with relational databases and data dictionaries and taxonomies

• Salary range of $100,000-$120,000, depending on skills, experience and qualifications
