Assistant/Associate Professor – Animal Health & Infectious Diseases

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Veterinary Medicine seeks a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor to lead research, extension, and teaching in animal health and infectious diseases. This twelve‑month appointment will split effort roughly 50% research and 50% extension/service/teaching, supporting the School’s One Health mission across the Delmarva Peninsula and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program focused on infectious disease, parasitology, virology, bacteriology, immunology, biosecurity, or epidemiology.
• Provide science‑based extension and diagnostic services to protect animal and public health.
• Teach veterinary and graduate courses and mentor students.
• Collaborate with the Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, the Director of UMES AES, and the Administrator of UMES Extension.
• Contribute to the growth and diversity of the new School of Veterinary Medicine.

Required profile

• DVM degree (required); PhD or equivalent research experience (highly preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.
• Experience in extension, service, or applied veterinary work.
• Strong record of scholarly publications and teaching effectiveness.
• Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and the One Health approach.
