Assistant Scientist – Pancreatic Islet Research

About the role

The Department of Medicine at the University of Miami seeks a full‑time Assistant Scientist to lead independent and collaborative research on pancreatic islet biology and beta‑cell function. The role supports translational studies aimed at understanding diabetes mechanisms, glucose homeostasis, and metabolic dysfunction.

Key responsibilities

• Design, conduct, and analyze experiments related to islet cell adaptation and metabolic studies.
• Lead project planning, grant development, scientific writing, and mentorship of junior staff.
• Collaborate with senior researchers to publish findings in refereed journals and prepare patent applications.
• Request and manage equipment, supplies, and experimental data for assigned projects.

Required profile

• Ph.D. (or M.D.) in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Endocrinology, or a related field.
• Minimum one year of relevant research experience.
• Strong problem‑solving ability, sound judgment, and capacity to work independently and in teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Prism or comparable statistical analysis software.
• Experience in data collection, organization, and analysis for biomedical research.
