About the role

The State of Georgia’s Coweta Judicial Circuit Public Defender Office is seeking an Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 1) to join its Newnan office. This entry‑level position provides zealous representation to indigent clients facing criminal charges in Superior Court.

Key responsibilities

• Represent clients in criminal matters, ensuring competent and vigorous advocacy.
• Manage case files, conduct legal research, and prepare motions and briefs.
• Assist senior defenders with routine‑complexity cases and collaborate on case strategy.
• Maintain accurate records and comply with court deadlines.

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution.
• License to practice law in Georgia or eligibility to sit for the Georgia Bar exam, with bar passage and licensure within one year of hiring.
