About the role
The Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences at UMass Boston invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Gerontology, beginning September 1, 2026. The appointment offers flexibility to develop a research program, with a preference for work at the intersection of aging, health disparities, cognitive aging, economics of retirement, spatial methods, and AI‑driven digital technologies.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and sustain an independent research agenda, securing external funding and publishing in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Teach undergraduate, master’s and doctoral courses within the Gerontology program and related academic units.
- Mentor and advise students, serving on dissertation, comprehensive exam and practicum committees.
- Participate as a Fellow in the Gerontology Institute and collaborate with affiliated research centers.
- Contribute to departmental service, curriculum development, and university initiatives.
Required profile
- Earned doctoral degree in gerontology, psychology, economics, social work, sociology, public policy, public health, human development, or a closely related interdisciplinary field.
- Demonstrated potential or a record of obtaining substantial external research funding.
- Strong publication record in reputable scholarly journals.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and engaging with a diverse student body.
