Assistant Professor in Agricultural Ecohydrology

About the role

The School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Agricultural Ecohydrology. The appointment is split between the Department of Natural Sciences (60%) and the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Resource Sciences (40%) with additional responsibilities to the UMES Agricultural Experiment Station and Extension.

Key responsibilities

• Develop an integrated research and Extension program focused on water‑related challenges in agricultural and coastal landscapes.
• Secure external funding and conduct applied research to improve water‑use efficiency, nutrient management, and climate‑resilient agriculture.
• Establish field‑based studies across the Delmarva Peninsula and Chesapeake Bay watershed.
• Deliver Extension services, decision‑support tools, and educational programs for producers and land managers.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across SANS and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in hydrology, environmental science, agronomy, or a closely related field.
• Strong record of research in agricultural hydrology, nutrient transport, soil health, or watershed science.
• Experience with quantitative and predictive modeling, data integration, and field measurements.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with Extension stakeholders and translate science into practice.

Required skills

• Quantitative modeling (statistical, process‑based, machine learning, deep learning).
• GIS, remote sensing, UAV operations, and sensor‑network data analysis.
• Advanced data‑driven approaches for soil moisture, water availability, and nutrient loss prediction.

• Salary range $80,000 – $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
