Assistant Professor – Cyber Engineering Technology

About the role

The Department of Computational, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Cyber Engineering Technology to start in Spring/Summer 2027. The position blends teaching, research, and service, focusing on the security of hardware, embedded systems, IoT, and cyber‑physical infrastructures.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate (and potentially graduate) courses in cyber engineering technology, electronics systems engineering, and related cybersecurity topics.
• Develop and lead laboratory and project‑based instruction that emphasizes hands‑on experiential learning.
• Conduct impactful research, secure external funding, and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students.

Required profile

• Earned Ph.D. (or ABD with degree completion before appointment) in Cyber‑Engineering or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in hardware, IoT, embedded, or cyber‑physical system security.
• Commitment to teaching excellence, strong communication skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset for departmental growth.

Required skills

• Hardware and embedded systems security (secure architectures, firmware, trusted computing).
• FPGA security and hardware‑assisted cryptography.
• IoT and edge computing security, including wireless communications and secure sensing.
• Cyber‑physical systems and critical infrastructure security (ICS, OT, smart manufacturing, robotics, water/energy systems).
• Hardware assurance, secure system design, vulnerability analysis, cyber resilience, and AI‑enabled cyber defense.
