Assistant Professor & Associate Director – Media Ethics & Literacy

About the role

The School of Journalism and Strategic Media seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor who will also serve as Associate Director of the Center for Media Ethics and Literacy, contributing to research, teaching and public engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Center Administration: provide strategic leadership for the Center for Media Ethics and Literacy.
• Scholarly Production: conduct high‑impact research on media ethics, news literacy and democratic practices.
• Public Engagement: educate the public and industry professionals through the Center’s website, social media and public‑facing initiatives.
• External Support: secure external research funding to advance the Center’s strategic goals.
• Instruction: teach undergraduate and graduate journalism courses using innovative media‑literacy pedagogy.
• Mentorship: advise and mentor students in the School of Journalism and Strategic Media.
• Committee Service: serve on thesis, honors committees and participate in departmental and university governance.

Required profile

• Terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated record of exceptional teaching and mentoring at the graduate or undergraduate level.
• Evidence of high‑quality, peer‑reviewed research and a clear vision for Center‑led initiatives.
• Professional experience in journalism and a strong understanding of media‑industry ethical standards and evidence‑based media‑literacy pedagogy.
