Assistant Nurse Manager – Colorectal Surgery

About the role

The Assistant Nurse Manager for the H51 Colorectal Surgery Unit works nights (7:00 pm‑7:30 am) on Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus, supporting a world‑class team dedicated to curative surgeries for ulcerative colitis and colon cancer.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate unit clinical operations and provide direct patient care.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit caregivers and other departments.
• Review major operational patient‑care issues with Nurse Managers.
• Conduct clinical evaluations, counsel staff, administer corrective actions, and monitor attendance.
• Interview, select, orient, and mentor new caregivers.
• Prepare work schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
• Participate in quality‑improvement projects, outcomes studies, and research initiatives.
• Assume Nurse Manager responsibilities in their absence.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Two years of recent clinical nursing experience.
• Strong clinical knowledge and skills; ability to provide mentorship and support staff development.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• ONS Chemo/Bio course completed within two years of hire (if employed on chemo‑administering units).
