Assistant Director of Major Gifts

About the role

The Assistant Director of Major Gifts (ADMG) is a regionally focused major‑gift officer within Northeastern’s development structure. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Major Gifts, the ADMG manages a portfolio of high‑potential donors and works across the university to secure gifts ranging from $100K to $1M+.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, and friends in a defined geographic region.
• Maintain a portfolio of 120+ prospects and achieve annual fundraising and activity metrics.
• Collaborate with faculty, advancement teams, and university leaders to develop interdisciplinary donor strategies.
• Travel regularly to the assigned region for relationship building, prospect identification, and donor stewardship.
• Prepare call reports, manage prospect data in Ascend, and provide regular progress updates to senior leadership.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of professional experience with at least 3 years of proven success securing six‑ and seven‑figure gifts for a nonprofit.
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate alumni, parents, and friends and maintain strong donor relationships.
• Superior written and oral communication skills and a collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset.
• Data‑driven approach with experience using development office management systems.
• BA/BS degree required and willingness to travel, including occasional evenings and weekends.
