Armed Security Officer

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking an Armed Security Officer to protect patients, guests, and employees across its Lafayette campus. This full‑time, on‑site position requires a professional, courteous approach to safety and security in a healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce all company safety and security policies on the property.
• Conduct routine inspections of on‑site and off‑site locations.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, reporting findings promptly.
• Perform opening, lockdown, and other building security procedures as authorized.
• Participate in emergency response drills and preparedness activities.
• Maintain required certifications and complete training within designated timeframes.
• Adapt interactions to respect patient privacy and specific needs.
• Stay current on federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean DMV record.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) and firearms training.
• International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Ability to continuously walk the facility, including stairs up to an 11‑floor structure.

Required skills

• Computer proficiency for data entry and information retrieval.
• Experience with Windows‑style applications and keyboard use.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
