APRN / Physician Assistant - Oncology

About the role

Hematology Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg (HOAF) is growing and is seeking a compassionate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) with a strong interest in oncology. The APRN joins a multidisciplinary team and provides comprehensive medical oncology and hematology care to patients alongside physicians and other advanced practice providers. Oncology experience is preferred but not required.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients' physical and psychosocial status through interviews, health history, physical exam and diagnostic studies.
• Write prescriptions for medications and blood products according to written practice protocols.
• Determine patient eligibility for clinical trials and interpret study results.
• Administer treatments, obtain specimens and relay patient care information to the collaborating physician.
• Dictate or write patient history, admission, progress and discharge notes, and follow-up letters summarizing treatment and plan.
• Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds, triage patients and provide on-call coverage and hospital rounds.
• Document care accurately and timely, assist in crisis situations, train new employees and comply with HIPAA and other legal requirements.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program with a Master's degree.
• APRN or PA license in the appropriate state and prescriptive privileges (or eligible to apply).
• Current ANCC or ONS (AOCN-P) certification and current BLS.
• At least 5 years of experience as an APRN or PA, specifically in oncology.
• Willingness to work at any company location and overtime when given sufficient notice; travel less than 25%.

Required skills

• Ability to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
