Applied Research Director & Assistant VP, Community Development & Engagement

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis is seeking an experienced applied researcher to lead a team of economists, data scientists and research assistants. The role will shape the research agenda for low‑ and moderate‑income communities across the 9th District and Indian Country, and provide insight to senior leadership and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Set and drive the division’s research agenda on housing, labor markets and Native economies.
• Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary team, overseeing study design, data collection and econometric analysis.
• Produce and communicate research findings to internal leaders, policymakers, media and the public.
• Advise senior bank leadership on community development issues and emerging policy debates.
• Build and maintain partnerships with external researchers, community organizations and other Federal Reserve entities.

Required profile

• Doctorate in economics, public policy or a related field.
• 8–10 years of experience conducting quantitative research on low‑income populations, with a record of influencing policy or program decisions.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary research teams.
• Strong ability to present complex findings in accessible formats for diverse audiences.
