Application Engineering Manager

About the role

3M is seeking an Application Engineering Manager to lead a dynamic team focused on developing customer applications, commercializing new products, and delivering education programs. The role is based at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN, and offers the chance to collaborate with innovative colleagues worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Manage team work assignments in a fast‑paced environment, aligning efforts with business priorities.
• Identify, plan, recommend, and drive technical programs such as new customer applications, product commercialization, and education initiatives.
• Create an innovative climate that encourages risk‑taking, teamwork, and high productivity.
• Maintain strong operational knowledge of relevant technologies, products, and customer needs.
• Collaborate across multiple functions within the division and the broader 3M organization.
• Ensure safe laboratory conditions through good housekeeping, equipment maintenance, and safety education.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical discipline (e.g., Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering).
• At least three years of application engineering experience in a private, public, government, or military setting.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong customer‑engagement ability.
• Results‑oriented with a proven track record of successful execution.
• Effective decision‑making and influence at all organizational levels.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
