About the role
The Agricultural Technician Supervisor supports the Assistant Director of Operations at the Western Maryland Research and Education Center. The role involves coordinating and executing field research for University of Maryland faculty, operating a range of farm equipment, and providing leadership when the Assistant Director is absent.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule fieldwork for research projects, including tilling, planting, fertilizing, spraying, and harvesting.
- Operate farm tractors, tillage equipment, planters, sprayers, combines, and grain trucks, requiring a Class A CDL.
- Perform routine maintenance of equipment, grounds, and facilities.
- Provide on‑site supervision and leadership to other staff in the Assistant Director’s absence.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Six years of progressive agricultural experience, including at least four years in laboratory or field research and two years in a supervisory capacity.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License and Maryland pesticide applicator certification.
- Valid Maryland non‑commercial Class C driver’s license.
Required skills
- Operation of farm equipment (tractors, planters, sprayers, combines, grain trucks).
- Equipment maintenance and repair.
- Use of scientific methods and laboratory equipment.
- Computer proficiency for data recording and reporting.
