Regulated Waste Programs Manager

About the role

The Regulated Waste Programs Manager will lead the daily management and coordination of all regulated waste programs at the University of Maryland. This role oversees operations at the university’s Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (Building #344) and ensures compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate campus‑wide regulated waste programs and permits.
• Supervise daily operations of the Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility.
• Direct staff to maintain compliance with Maryland Department of the Environment and EPA regulations.
• Develop and maintain documentation standards and best practices.
• Conduct training sessions and presentations for large groups.
• Collaborate with managers, assistant directors, and directors to resolve issues and implement improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Three or more years of professional experience in waste management or a related field.
• At least one year of supervisory or lead experience.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to manage deadlines, workloads, and quality standards.
• Proven ability to navigate complex interpersonal situations with empathy and discretion.
