Agency Attorney – NYC Police Department

About the role

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner Trials seeks a qualified Agency Attorney to support the resolution of disciplinary matters for NYPD personnel. You will work closely with administrative law judges and a specialized team to ensure due process while enhancing transparency.

Key responsibilities

• Assist administrative law judges in preparing disciplinary reports and recommendations.
• Synthesize complex legal and factual issues at a high level.
• Conduct comprehensive legal research on law‑enforcement and administrative‑law topics.
• Prepare decisions and related data for public dissemination to promote transparency.
• Manage case files, compile statistics, and identify data patterns.

Required profile

• Admission to the New York State Bar and good standing throughout employment.
• At least one year of satisfactory U.S. legal experience after bar admission, or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small, specialized team.
• Eligibility for limited telework.
