Adult Education Intern – Support Refugee Programs

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an unpaid Adult Education Intern to support its adult education program for refugees, asylees and immigrants in northern New Jersey. The intern will work closely with program staff and volunteer instructors to ensure smooth classroom operations and accurate student data.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with on‑site intake and enrollment procedures.
• Administer and grade pre‑tests and post‑tests, both in‑person and by phone.
• Support classroom logistics such as attendance tracking, technical assistance, and schedule updates.
• Provide multilingual interpretation as needed and help learners with daily classroom issues.
• Enter and maintain client data in the internal ETO database and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
• Conduct course feedback surveys and follow up with participants.
• Assist clients in enrolling in additional community education programs.

Required profile

• Interest in refugee resettlement and social services.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse adult learners.
• Willingness to work on‑site in a classroom environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet tools.
• Basic data‑entry and computer literacy.
