Adjunct Instructor

About the role

The Department of Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a part‑time Adjunct Instructor to teach undergraduate courses for a six‑month term beginning July 1, 2026. This temporary, visiting faculty position involves 6.68 hours of instruction per week (approximately 0.167 FTE) and contributes to the department’s mission of exploring how communication shapes society.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate lectures, seminars, and labs in communication studies.
• Develop and update course materials, syllabi, and assessments.
• Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
• Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum planning.
• Engage in scholarly activities or research as appropriate for an adjunct faculty member.

Required profile

• Graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in Communication, Media Studies, Rhetoric, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience teaching at the college level.
• Ability to foster an inclusive and engaging classroom environment.
