Acute Care Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Pulmonary Critical Care

About the role

This full‑time position at Ochsner Health involves providing primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization, and education for critically ill patients in the Pulmonary Critical Care unit. The role works collaboratively with residents, fellows, attendings, staff nurses and discharge coordinators.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care under the supervision of the Medical Director, including emergency stabilization of critically ill patients.
• Teach and mentor residents, medical students, and staff; participate in staff development and education.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to plan, implement, and evaluate medical and nursing care.
• Provide patient education and assist with discharge planning.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Nursing OR Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Medicine/Health Sciences from an approved program.
• Current APRN license (Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner) OR active Physician Assistant license with NCCPA certification.
• Eligibility for prescriptive authority in the state of practice.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Required skills

• Computer proficiency for data entry and retrieval, including Windows‑style applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work flexible schedules (including 24/7, weekends, holidays, on‑call).
