Activity Therapist Leader

About the role

The Activity Therapist Leader provides therapeutic programming to help individuals develop essential life‑management skills for successful functioning at home, in the community, and at work. This position is based at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and coordinate therapeutic recreation programs.
• Assist participants with activities such as sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social events, and arts and crafts.
• Conduct assessments of individuals’ conditions and recommend appropriate recreational activities.
• Transport or accompany clients to treatment units using a wheelchair or stretcher as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
• At least three years of related experience, including one year in a lead, team‑leader, or supervisory role.
• May require registration in the area of assignment and completion of state and federal background checks.

Required skills

• Ability to plan and direct therapeutic recreation programs.
• Proficiency in facilitating sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts‑and‑crafts sessions.
• Skill in conducting client assessments and recommending suitable activities.
• Capability to safely transport or accompany clients using mobility equipment.
