Accountant – Founding Departmental Hire

About the role

As a founding departmental hire, the Accountant will own core accounting processes, support the financial close, and help improve internal controls at Clay. This role sits at the intersection of finance and go‑to‑market operations in a fast‑moving, high‑growth startup.

Key responsibilities

• Own and execute monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, delivering timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, revenue recognition (ASC 606) and supporting schedules.
• Manage accounts payable, accruals, prepaid expenses and fixed assets, and assist with cash‑flow forecasting.
• Drive finance system implementations, ERP and revenue workflow automation.
• Support annual audits, tax filings and coordination with external auditors and advisors.

Required profile

• CPA certification with solid knowledge of US GAAP, specifically ASC 606.
• Experience in a Big 4 public‑accounting firm and high‑growth tech startups.
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with operations, finance and leadership on budgeting, forecasting and ad‑hoc analyses.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and extreme attention to detail.
