Accountant 1 – Public Health District 4

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking an Accountant 1 to support District 4 Public Health in LaGrange. Under direct supervision, you will perform paraprofessional accounting and fiscal control functions such as accounts payable, payroll preparation, and budget monitoring while contributing to emergency response efforts.

Key responsibilities

• Travel up to 25‑50% to various health department locations and conduct physical inventory of fixed assets.
• Manage fixed assets, including monthly entries, annual depreciation, transfers, and disposals.
• Conduct cash audits and semi‑annual cash audits for all health department cash entities.
• Verify and prepare volunteer payroll using Excel spreadsheets.
• Oversee gift‑card maintenance and health department budgets.
• Manage expense claim closings and provide backup support for accounts payable.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end closeouts.
• Support the District Administrator and finance team with additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
• Three years or more purchasing/procurement experience.
• One year or more general accounting experience.
• Three years or more accounts payable experience.
• Knowledge of relevant accounting software.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using accounting software.
