Academic Counselor 2 – Student Advising & Retention

About the role

The Academic Counselor 2 provides academic advising for students in the Ogden Honors College, coordinating events and programmatic support to enhance student retention. The role works closely with the Director for Advising and Enrollment Management and collaborates with campus partners to resolve student issues.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual academic counseling on admissions, course and graduation requirements, and career planning, including interpretation of placement and vocational tests (approximately 50% of time).
• Develop and deliver workshops, information sessions, orientation programs, and special events; produce digital and print resources for student support (approximately 30% of time).
• Represent the college at university functions, high schools, community events, and professional meetings (approximately 10% of time).
• Maintain student advising records, utilize tracking resources, and assist with recruiting efforts (remaining time).

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree and at least one year of relevant experience.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, Liberal Arts, or Social Sciences and two years of full‑time collegiate student support experience.
