Academic Advisor I – Student Success

About the role

We are seeking an Academic Advisor I to drive engagement and empower students to achieve their academic and career goals, supporting undergraduate retention at Texas A&M AgriLife Research.

Key responsibilities

• Advise students on course selection, registration, add/drop, withdrawals, and curriculum changes while clarifying university policies and program requirements.
• Develop realistic educational and career plans, providing input on majors, minors, and transfer credit decisions.
• Maintain accurate advising records, including student contacts and notes.
• Proactively share academic, professional, health, and wellness resources and refer students to appropriate services.
• Assist in planning and delivering advising events, student success workshops, and retention campaigns.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (no experience required).
• Ability to initiate, build, and maintain effective relationships with students and colleagues.
• Strong communication, active listening, and organizational skills.
• Capacity to handle confidential information responsibly.

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing applications.
• Proficiency with spreadsheet applications.
• Proficiency with database applications.
