2nd Shift Entry Level Machinist

About the role

Moog is seeking an entry‑level machinist to work the 2nd shift at its Blacksburg, VA facility. This position offers hands‑on experience with a variety of machine tools in a supportive, performance‑driven culture.

Key responsibilities

• Perform basic drill‑press, lathe, milling, and grinding operations.
• Care for and apply turning/plunge and form tools.
• Operate shear vise, manual and power tapping machines, and understand different tap and die styles.
• Use power hand tools, grinders, drills, belt and disc sanders, sand and bead blasters.
• Operate power band saws and cut‑off saws, selecting proper speeds, feeds, tooth size, and handling blade maintenance.
• Complete required paperwork and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal, written, and computer instructions in English.
• Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• At least one year of an approved vocational program in Machine Technology or equivalent.
• Proficiency in general mathematics and knowledge of machine‑shop gauges and machines.
