About the role
The Zoning Plans Examiner reviews building and engineering permit applications to ensure compliance with local land development regulations and zoning codes. The role involves coordination with the Building Division, field inspections of residential and commercial projects, and communication with the public.
Key responsibilities
- Review building permit plans for compliance with the City’s adopted plans, resolutions, and land development regulations.
- Interpret zoning and sign codes, provide guidance to applicants, and work with external agencies.
- Conduct zoning and landscape field inspections to verify conformity with the Land Development Code.
- Prepare zoning verification letters and respond to public inquiries in written or oral form.
- Assist staff in processing zoning and sign‑code development review applications, including research and report preparation.
Required profile
- Thorough knowledge of city codes, ordinances and land development regulations (preferred).
- Experience in urban planning or architectural design (preferred).
- State of Florida Architect license, or certified inspector (BN) or Plans Examiner (PX) license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
