About the role
FDD’s Center on Military and Political Power is seeking a full‑time U.S. military officer to join as a Visiting Military Officer. The fellowship lasts six months to one year (short‑term options of six weeks are also possible) and can be carried out on‑site in Washington, D.C. or through a hybrid remote arrangement.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct original research on U.S. defense strategy, policy and capabilities.
- Write analytical pieces for publication in newspapers, journals and online platforms.
- Present research findings at FDD events and external conferences.
- Participate in meetings, briefings, networking and professional‑development activities.
- Support day‑to‑day work of the Center on Military and Political Power.
Required profile
- Active U.S. military officer holding rank O‑3 to O‑6.
- Graduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Strong analytical, research and writing abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
