Visiting Military Officer

About the role

FDD’s Center on Military and Political Power is seeking a full‑time U.S. military officer to join as a Visiting Military Officer. The fellowship lasts six months to one year (short‑term options of six weeks are also possible) and can be carried out on‑site in Washington, D.C. or through a hybrid remote arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct original research on U.S. defense strategy, policy and capabilities.
• Write analytical pieces for publication in newspapers, journals and online platforms.
• Present research findings at FDD events and external conferences.
• Participate in meetings, briefings, networking and professional‑development activities.
• Support day‑to‑day work of the Center on Military and Political Power.

Required profile

• Active U.S. military officer holding rank O‑3 to O‑6.
• Graduate degree in a relevant discipline.
• Strong analytical, research and writing abilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
