Transportation/Highway Construction Inspector – Southeast Missouri

About the role

Gonzalez Companies, a partner‑managed firm, is seeking a Transportation/Highway Construction Inspector to support projects across southeastern Missouri. You will work on‑site inspecting highways, bridges and roadways, ensuring compliance with DOT standards and client specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform on‑site inspections of highways, bridges and roadways to verify compliance with project specifications, DOT standards and safety regulations.
• Review construction plans, shop drawings and material submittals for conformance with approved designs and applicable codes.
• Document daily construction activities through detailed reports, photographs and field notes.
• Conduct material sampling and testing (asphalt, concrete, soils, aggregates) following DOT procedures.
• Monitor contractor activities for safety, quality and schedule adherence.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors and project managers to resolve field issues efficiently.
• Maintain accurate records of project progress, materials used and any non‑compliance issues.
• Participate in pre‑construction and progress meetings to communicate findings and recommendations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field preferred.
• 1–5 years of experience in transportation or civil construction inspection.
• Familiarity with DOT construction standards, specifications and inspection procedures.
• Knowledge of material testing procedures for asphalt, concrete, soils and aggregates.
• Strong understanding of construction safety standards and field inspection protocols.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to project sites.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using inspection software or databases.
• Ability to perform material testing (asphalt, concrete, soils, aggregates).
