Transportation Project Engineer I/II

About the role

We are looking for a Transportation Project Engineer (I/II) to join our team in Chicago. You will work on a variety of roadway, intersection, pedestrian, and traffic improvement projects for public agencies and municipalities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of transportation projects, including roadways, intersections, and pedestrian facilities.
• Prepare engineering drawings, plans, and 3D models using CAD software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Perform engineering calculations for alignments, grading, drainage, quantities, and traffic control layouts.
• Support the preparation of cost estimates, technical reports, design summaries, and bid packages.
• Conduct field visits for data collection, condition assessments, surveying coordination, and construction observation.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure design quality and compliance with IDOT, LPA, or municipal standards.
• Review topographic surveys, geotechnical reports, environmental documents, and utility data.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• 0–5 years of experience in transportation, roadway, or municipal infrastructure design.
• Familiarity with MicroStation/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Understanding of geometric design, drainage, traffic control, and plan development.
• EIT/FE preferred; required for Engineer II level; PE‑track candidates strongly preferred.
