Structural Design Engineer

About the role

The Structural Design Engineer is responsible for economical engineering design of precast concrete products, ensuring they meet structural and constructability requirements. The role works closely with drafters, mentors, supervisors, and other specialists to deliver accurate designs and support production.

Key responsibilities

• Review contract documents to define project scope and direction.
• Develop efficient designs based on industry standards, Fabcon design, and detailing standards.
• Review Fabcon shop drawings for technical accuracy and collaborate with drafters and senior engineers to finalize customer submittals.
• Assist production checkers to ensure timely delivery of production drawings.
• Support project managers and field personnel with on‑site issues and provide field fix designs when needed.
• Mentor lower‑level engineers on easy to medium complexity jobs.
• Complete work promptly to meet internal and external schedule requirements.

Required profile

• B.S. in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred).
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to handle multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
• Understanding of concrete and steel design codes (ACI, AISC) and familiarity with IBC and ASCE 7 load requirements.

Required skills

• Concrete design using ACI code.
• Steel design using AISC code.
• Wind and snow load calculations per IBC and ASCE 7.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Experience with engineering software such as LecWall, Mathcad, Enercalc, and Concise.
