Software Engineer – Core Platform

About the role

Radical AI is building a self‑driving lab platform that combines AI with autonomous robotics to accelerate R&D across multiple industries. As a Software Engineer you will join a senior, hands‑on team developing the core platform that controls and monitors physical experiments in real‑world labs.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services for experiment definition, path‑planning, and durable task execution.
• Develop data back‑end components including database schemas, migrations, ETL pipelines, and object‑storage designs.
• Build internal developer tools, SDKs, shared services and service templates.
• Implement observability solutions using structured logs, metrics, tracing (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) and production debugging.
• Engineer hybrid cloud/on‑prem infrastructure with containerization, orchestration and IaC.
• Create agent tooling for API integrations, code execution, scientific literature retrieval and workflow automation.
• Orchestrate scientific workflows such as Bayesian optimization loops, experiment scheduling, retries and idempotent job execution.

Required profile

• 5‑6+ years of production software engineering experience with a strong sense of systems thinking and production instincts.
• Ability to work across the full stack and deliver highly reliable software that controls physical systems.
• Experience navigating hybrid cloud/on‑prem deployments and distributed‑system constraints.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Go and/or Python (additional experience with TypeScript or Rust is a plus).
• Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts such as timeouts, retries, idempotency, dead‑letter queues and safe rollback.
• Concurrent and asynchronous programming expertise (event loops, cancellation semantics, bounded queues).
• Solid networking fundamentals, especially for on‑prem environments.
• Containerization and cloud deployment experience (Kubernetes, AWS) and Linux system debugging.
• Familiarity with observability tools (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana).
