Senior Toxicologist – NIEHS Literature Review (Proposal)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Toxicologist to lead the NIEHS literature review proposal. The successful candidate will provide scientific and technical leadership for systematic evidence maps, literature reviews, and health hazard assessments that support federal decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the senior toxicology subject‑matter expert for systematic reviews, evidence synthesis, and hazard assessments.
• Lead evaluation and interpretation of toxicological, epidemiological, mechanistic and exposure‑science data from human, animal and in‑vitro studies.
• Design and implement systematic evidence‑mapping, scoping‑review and systematic‑review protocols.
• Oversee study screening, data extraction, quality evaluation and weight‑of‑evidence assessments.
• Apply toxicological principles and evidence‑evaluation frameworks to characterize human health and environmental risks.
• Draft, review and contribute to technical, toxicity, DART, immunotoxicity and research reports as well as peer‑reviewed manuscripts.
• Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and project leadership to ensure scientific rigor and quality assurance.
• Support interactions with federal partners, scientific advisory groups and external reviewers.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD) in toxicology, pharmacology, environmental health or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience conducting systematic reviews, evidence synthesis and health‑hazard assessments.
• Proven track record of scientific writing for technical reports and peer‑reviewed publications.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Preference for candidates located in the Raleigh‑Durham‑Chapel Hill area.
