Senior Staff Engineer, GNC – BlueSky

About the role

Shield AI’s Guidance Navigation Control (GNC) engineering team is developing cutting‑edge algorithms that enable high‑performance flight for the BlueSky project. As a GNC Engineer you will work on an agile, first‑principles team that pushes the boundaries of autonomous aircraft technology.

Required profile

• BS in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering with a focus on Control Systems.
• Minimum 7 years of experience (or equivalent) in vehicle dynamics modeling, flight controls, or simulation.
• Professional experience with C++ in a production environment.
• Proficiency with Matlab and Simulink.
• Expert knowledge of aircraft dynamics, control, stability, and handling qualities.
• Experience tuning and optimizing control systems in both simulation and real‑world tests.
• Ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance.

Required skills

• C++ programming.
• Matlab and Simulink modeling.
• Modern control theory (LQR/LQG, Adaptive, Robust, Model Predictive Control).
• Extraction of linear aircraft state‑space models from nonlinear equations of motion.
• Design/selection of servos, inertial navigation systems, air data units, and vision‑based navigation systems.
• Kalman filter implementation.
• System identification techniques.
• Git version control and CI/CD workflows.
