Senior Roadway Engineer – Team Lead

About the role

Rinker Design Associates, LLC (RDA) is seeking an experienced Senior Roadway Engineer (Team Lead) to lead and develop a team of roadway professionals within our growing Fredericksburg, Virginia office. In this role you will provide technical oversight on complex transportation projects while mentoring engineers and shaping the future growth of the team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead roadway design efforts, overseeing plans, specifications, estimates and deliverables.
• Provide day‑to‑day leadership, mentorship and performance coaching for direct reports.
• Conduct plan reviews and QA/QC to ensure high‑quality delivery and VDOT compliance.
• Assist with workload balancing, task assignments and team coordination.
• Mentor engineers across experience levels and promote best practices.
• Partner with project managers, office leadership and clients to support business objectives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation or related engineering.
• 6‑10 years of roadway engineering and transportation design experience.
• Virginia PE license (or ability to obtain it quickly).
• Strong knowledge of VDOT standards and roadway design best practices.
• Experience leading technical design efforts, plan reviews and QA/QC.
• Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer and/or MicroStation.
• Excellent communication, leadership and problem‑solving abilities.
