Senior Mechanical Engineer - Building Systems

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of building mechanical systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, educational and municipal projects. The role combines hands‑on engineering, project leadership and client interaction, and can be performed fully remote with occasional travel to sites in the Northeast.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and act as project manager for HVAC, plumbing and fire‑protection systems.
• Develop and review construction documents, technical specifications and cost estimates.
• Ensure designs comply with ASHRAE, local building codes and client requirements.
• Manage project scope, schedule and budgets for assigned projects.
• Serve as primary client contact, building strong relationships.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, including civil, structural and electrical staff.
• Oversee construction administration, including submittal review, RFI responses and site visits.
• Support proposal development, effort estimating and project planning.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team technical development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience designing building mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
