Senior Director, Global Health Security, Health Programs

About the role

The Senior Director, Global Health Security (GHS) leads FHI 360’s Health Programs division, overseeing multiple portfolios that address epidemic and pandemic prevention, preparedness, detection, and response. Reporting to the Senior Director of the Global Technical Team, this role provides strategic and operational guidance to ensure high‑quality outcomes aligned with donor requirements and organizational objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and innovative solutions for complex implementation challenges in outbreak‑affected, fragile, and rapidly evolving environments.
• Analyze project performance, identify improvement areas, and recommend actionable solutions to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
• Make time‑critical technical and operational decisions during public‑health emergencies, often with incomplete information.
• Resolve cross‑award technical questions across surveillance, laboratory systems, infection prevention, risk communication, workforce development, antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic disease, One Health, and emergency preparedness.
• Anticipate and mitigate programmatic, security, staff safety, and reputational risks associated with work in fragile settings.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to share evidence, lessons learned, and best practices.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading large‑scale global health programs, preferably in epidemic or pandemic contexts.
• Proven ability to navigate complex, high‑pressure environments and make strategic decisions.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with donors, governments, and partners.
• Demonstrated track record of fostering innovation and driving organizational impact.
