School Lunch Cook (Continuous Posting 2026‑2027)

About the role

The Buffalo Board of Education is seeking a reliable School Lunch Cook to join its food service team for the 2026‑2027 school year. Working in various school locations, you will prepare nutritious and appealing meals for students under the guidance of a Cook Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a variety of foods using approved recipes and quantity cooking methods.
• Cook meats, vegetables, soups, broths, salads, sandwiches, desserts, and other menu items.
• Assist with menu planning, food requisitions, and basic record‑keeping of supplies.
• Operate steam tables and support meal service as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area and assist with basic cleaning tasks.

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• At least one year of full‑time experience in quantity food preparation (part‑time experience may be prorated).
• Ability to work under direct supervision and, when required, supervise food service helpers.
• Proof of education must be presented at the time of appointment.

Required skills

• Food preparation and cooking techniques for large‑scale meals.
• Knowledge of approved scientific methods and quantity recipes.
• Basic record‑keeping of food and supply usage.
