Safety Hazmat Technician – Emergency Response

About the role

R+L Carriers is seeking a Safety Hazmat Technician for its Memphis service‑center office. Reporting to the Director of Safety, you will lead emergency response activities, hazardous material handling, and site remediation while ensuring compliance with company safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform emergency response, hazardous and non‑hazardous material clean‑up, site remediation, and equipment decontamination.
• Handle hazardous materials, properly containerize waste, and complete required safety documentation.
• Audit incoming and outgoing hazardous‑material shipments for regulatory compliance.
• Set up and participate in live training events to maintain personnel competency.
• Coach co‑workers on unsafe behaviors and contribute to specialized projects as needed.
• Maintain daily job notes, communicate issues promptly, and support high‑pressure, fast‑paced operations.

Required profile

• 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
• Physically fit; able to lift up to 75 lb and work in PPE.
• Ability to thrive in a high‑pressure, team‑supported environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Willingness to coach others and participate in scheduled projects.
• Capability to work confidentially and follow company safety procedures.

Required skills

• HAZWOPER certification (40‑hour).
• Operation of emergency‑response tools and equipment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Auditing hazardous‑material shipments for compliance.
• Preparation of safety documentation and waste containerization.
