Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency (PRN)

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department on a PRN (as‑needed) basis. This position leads patient care using the nursing process, adheres to the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code, and supports the organization’s commitment to quality, cultural sensitivity, and strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Effectively uses the nursing process to deliver patient care.
• Assesses learning needs and implements teaching strategies for patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Communicates, delegates, and manages nursing team resources, serving as a leader on the interdisciplinary team.
• Utilizes data and knowledge to evaluate and promote change for optimal outcomes.
• Adapts behavior to respect patient privacy, cultural preferences, and communication styles.
• Performs other related duties as required and stays current with federal, state, and local regulations.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school (required); Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
• Current RN license in the state of practice.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification within 30 days of hire.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 90 days of hire.
• Good organizational, time‑management, and judgement abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computers, software, and web‑based applications.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
