Refrigeration & Air Condition Mechanic (HVAC)

About the role

The Refrigeration & Air Condition Mechanic will join 3M’s facilities team to install, maintain and troubleshoot heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems across production, laboratory, office and utility areas. You will work with a variety of mechanical and electronic equipment while ensuring compliance with 3M’s CFC Management Policy.

Key responsibilities

• Install, modify, move, troubleshoot, repair, decommission, calibrate and adjust HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
• Operate building automation systems (BAS) to monitor performance, use trending and alarming functions, and apply PLC/DDC fundamentals for repairs.
• Read and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, process flow diagrams and vendor manuals.
• Test and treat water‑circulation systems (cooling towers, chilled water, radiant heat) to prevent corrosion, scaling and biological growth.
• Maintain chemical injection systems, determine treatment requirements and perform manual additions.
• Set up, operate and read precision testing instruments such as leak detectors, pressure gauges, thermometers, psychrometers and velometers.

Required profile

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Required skills

• Knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, chillers, compressors, cooling towers, pumps, flow meters, fans, thermostats, humidistats and heat exchangers.
• Experience with building automation systems, PLC and DDC control fundamentals.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and vendor diagrams.
• Competence in water‑circulation system treatment and chemical injection maintenance.
• Proficiency with precision testing instruments (leak detectors, pressure gauges, thermometers, psychrometers, velometers).
