Saint Louis University · St. Louis
Job description
About the role
The Warren Lab in the Department of Biology at Saint Louis University seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to investigate the physiological mechanisms that enable animals to survive severe hypoxia and anoxia. The research focuses on neurophysiological function and gene expression in the brain of anoxic turtles, using cutting‑edge electrophysiology and molecular techniques.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct and report research on neurophysiological function and gene expression in anoxic turtle brain as outlined in the NSF grant.
- Lead whole‑cell patch‑clamp recordings of membrane properties in cultured turtle cortical neurons.
- Design and execute experiments, prepare manuscripts, and present findings at conferences.
- Maintain ethical standards, good laboratory practice, and accurate research records.
- Incorporate undergraduate students into research activities and collaborate with partners at the University of Toronto and Aarhus University.
Required profile
- PhD in neuroscience, physiology, or a related biomedical discipline.
- Strong interest in hypoxia/anoxia physiology and neurobiology.
- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative research team.
- Commitment to professional development and mentorship.
Required skills
- Whole‑cell patch‑clamp electrophysiology.
- Primary neuronal culture, specifically turtle cerebrocortical neurons.
- Neurophysiological data acquisition and analysis.
