Phlebotomist 2 – Full-time Clinical Role

About the role

The University of Miami Health Laboratories Department is seeking a full‑time Phlebotomist 2 to work in the U Tower hospital. The role involves drawing blood, verifying patient records, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis while providing compassionate care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy following the department’s procedure manual.
• Prioritize hematology and oncology patient specimens.
• Pre‑accession specimens, match and organize daily orders and labels.
• Verify patient identification for each draw.
• Answer questions and resolve issues related to test requisitions, specimen requirements, and priority changes.
• Maintain inventory levels, rotate stock, and manage specimen storage according to manufacturer recommendations.
• Keep accurate files, logs, and generate statistical reports for the supervisor.
• Process cancellations, credits, and additions of test procedures.
• Prepare, unpack, date, and store biohazard containers, and dispose of waste per SOPs.
• Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding assets.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant phlebotomy experience.
• Phlebotomy certification.
• HIV certification.
• BLS certification (American Heart Association).
