Part‑time ESOL Instructor

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a part‑time ESOL Instructor to deliver integrated English language instruction to non‑native speakers at its Richmond office. This role supports the organization’s mission to empower refugees and immigrants through language and workforce skills.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver curricula for mixed‑level ESOL classes that combine language learning with job skills, digital literacy, civics, and life skills.
• Adapt lesson activities to meet the needs of learners ranging from basic to advanced proficiency.
• Manage community volunteers as classroom assistants and coordinate breakout group activities.
• Conduct English language assessments, track attendance, and document student progress.
• Assist with student recruitment, registration, intake, and retention processes both in‑person and virtually.
• Maintain accurate records, case notes, and program data to ensure compliance.

Required profile

• Experience delivering integrated ESOL instruction to adult learners.
• Ability to design and adjust lesson plans for diverse proficiency levels.
• Strong organizational skills for record‑keeping and data entry.
• Experience working with volunteers or community assistants.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
