Part-Time Structural Engineer – Seismic Focus

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking qualified Structural Engineers with a seismic focus for part‑time, as‑needed assignments in the Fresno/Bakersfield area. The role involves project‑based seismic risk assessment consulting, limited seismic retrofit design, and hands‑on client‑facing on‑site building assessments.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site seismic risk assessments and prepare detailed reports (ASCE‑41 Tier 1, SRAs, BSAs).
• Perform structural calculations per modern and historic building codes to support investigations or limited retrofit designs.
• Interview owners, tenants and officials, document findings with photos and field notes, and manage project communication.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 3–7 years of seismic engineering experience, including at least 3 years of seismic design and 2 years of seismic risk assessment.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel across California.

Required skills

• ASCE‑41 seismic assessment methodology.
• Seismic risk assessment and structural calculation tools.
• Knowledge of modern and historic building code provisions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, inspection tools and smartphone applications.
