Part-Time Recess Sports Coach
ANTS Sports · San Francisco
Job description
About the role
ANTS (America's Next Talented Stars) is looking for passionate part-time Recess Sports Coaches for TK-5th grade students in San Francisco for the 2026-27 school year. Coaches lead safe, inclusive, high-energy recess play at a partner elementary school, working alongside a small team of ANTS coaches under an on-site Site Lead. No previous coaching experience is required, as all coaches receive training.
Key responsibilities
- Lead fun, safe and inclusive recess play for children aged 4-10.
- Teach the FUNdamentals of sports through quick-start games that get every child moving; training is provided.
- Ensure a safe and reliable program by arriving on time each day for the full school year.
- Attend in-person orientation training and join the pre-session coach huddle, then follow the day's recess plan.
- Interact positively with students, teachers, yard staff and school administrators.
- Set up before and clean up after each recess block.
Required profile
- Reliable transportation to the coaching site; a vehicle is very helpful because equipment may need to be brought to and from class.
- Responsible and professional: arrive on time, keep accurate attendance, and interact positively with parents and school staff.
- Strong communication skills, using email and phone with ANTS, parents and site staff.
- Enthusiastic, fun and patient with young children, who develop at their own pace.
- Experience as a player or coach (at least two years) is highly valued but optional.
- Must pass a federal and state background check and/or FBI fingerprinting (Livescan) and test negative for tuberculosis within the last four years.
Schedule and what we offer
- Recess programming runs Monday through Friday, generally between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., on the same days each week for the school year; weekday daytime role with no afternoon or Saturday availability required.
- Program days are assigned by the ANTS Team to fit the coach's schedule.
- Coaches can also take on after-school youth sports coaching (typically 3-6 p.m.) and combine roles.
- Pay starts at $25 per hour, with flexible scheduling, ongoing support and training, and the chance to gain experience in early childhood sports education.
