Mid-Level Traffic Engineer – Signals, ITS & Lighting

About the role

We are seeking a skilled mid‑level Traffic Engineer to design and deliver traffic signal, ITS, and roadway lighting solutions. The role supports our Utah office and larger regional projects, offering the chance to expand technical depth and own complex design tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Perform traffic engineering analysis and design focused on ITS, signal systems, and lighting.
• Prepare detailed plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, and reports.
• Design traffic signal layouts, timing plans, and interconnect systems per agency standards.
• Develop roadway and intersection lighting designs, including photometric calculations.
• Support project managers with coordination, scheduling, and budget tracking.
• Independently complete primary design elements and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, agencies, and utilities.
• Apply MUTCD, FHWA, AASHTO, and state/local DOT standards throughout project development.
• Participate in client and agency meetings, technical discussions, and presentations.
• Support quality‑control reviews, respond to comments, and ensure accurate deliverables.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 4+ years of professional experience in traffic or transportation engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
• Demonstrated experience on ITS, traffic signal, and roadway lighting projects.
• Working knowledge of MUTCD, FHWA guidance, AASHTO standards, and DOT design criteria.
